How I got my Discover rate dropped

October 22, 2007 by LuluGal in Credit Cards with 2 Comments

Today I was taking a look at my credit report and noticed that my credit score was looking very nice indeed.

I decided to call up the credit card company and see if they would lower my rates on any of my cards. My Discover card currently stands at 20.99% so I spoke to the representative.

She informed me that the rate could only go down to 18.99% right now but that I could call back in two months to see if they had a better rate for me..creditcards How I got my Discover rate dropped

She also told me that they could give me 7.9% on balance transfers but I elected not to take advantage of that right now because I had just done a large transfer over to that card.

I was very happy to get the rate dropped, even if it is just two percentage points. The representative said the new rate would be effective from Monday so that is going to help quite a bit.

It might look like a small difference and not something that I should be shouting about…but when you look at having a high balance on the card then you see that even 2% can make a big difference. This will help me to save a little bit of money on the card since I will have less in interest charges every month.

Tracking my Finances in October: Day 20

Welcome to my daily tracking of income and expenses for the month.

Tracking my Finances in October: Day 20

Income for the month to date: $429.03

Expenses for the month to date: $2657.74

Net effect: -$2228.71

Wow, for the first time in a few days I have not sent off credit card payments. The payment this time was the insurance on the car, which I put on the Chase card so I could get the points.

In an earlier post I had mentioned that I would focus on bringing the Chase card down to zero next. I have had to revise that snowball goal and I am going to pay off the Citibank card next.? This is because I am using the Chase card as my ‘everything’ card so I will have purchases on it every month.

The interest rate on the Citibank card is also higher so it makes more sense to bring the balance down more.

I am going to call the credit card company right now to see if I can get my rates lowered because I just noticed that my credit scores all went up!!!

I will see you guys and gals later as I continue my journey to save money and become debt free!!!!

Today while I was doing laundry I found twenty cents on the folding table. Now before you guys go knocking me for taking the money here is what happened. I went in to do my laundry. It takes 35 minutes to wash and 45 minutes to dry.

.handmoney Tracking my Finances in October: Day 19I put my laundry into the washer and the two dimes were lying on the folding table. There were various washers going so I know that different people were there. I went away to do some stuff while the clothes washed. When I came back 35 minutes later, some of the clothes that had been washed were drying and there were new laundry bags and baskets lying around.

This means that more people had come in and walked out. I assumed that the coins belonged to someone who was washing when I got in but when I counted the dryers that were going they corresponded to the original number of washers. The coins were still lying on the folding table but they were pushed to a different area.

I put my clothes in to dry and left. When I got back 45 minutes later the coins were still on the folding table….in a different spot. I figured that the money was lying there for over an hour and everyone kept pushing the coins all around the folding table so they did not want it. Therefore I picked up the two dimes and they are now part of my found money.

I will see you guys and gals later as I continue my journey to save money and become debt free!!!!

How I saved money by bagging my Lunch

October 20, 2007 by LuluGal in Daily life with 3 Comments

On Thursday the staff was being given lunch by some members of the community in order to show their appreciation.

Everyone was talking about the lunch and people who usually brought their lunch said they would not be bringing anything in.

I decided to bring my lunch just in case there was something I did not like…or in case the food ran out by the time I had to take my lunch break. One lady told me I should not bother, but I told her I was a very picky eater (remember my adventures with green beans?) and I just wanted to be safe.

So I went ahead and packed my little lunch and put it in the refrigerator in the staff room and went about my daily duties. I went to the lunch when it was my turn and almost fainted. The lunch consisted of mashed potatoes and fried chicken (I don’t eat chicken) with rolls and dessert.

I promptly turned around and went into the staff lunch room and got out my bagged lunch. To my surprise there were? a number of people in there who were trying to decide where to go for lunch because they? did not like the lunch.

I just took up my lunch and walked out of the room laughing to myself. I would have ended up like those folks, hungry and having to drive to get lunch if I had not brought in my lunch.

I therefore saved money both on buying lunch on that day and on using up gas to get that lunch.

Bring your lunch to work….even if people laugh at you…you will end up having the last laugh with your money in your pocket.
