I was checking my email when I saw this offer for a free credit score and free credit monitoring for one month. I was going to pass up on this offer because I was going to order my free report from www.annualcreditreport.com this month as part of my financial management strategy. Then I decided to read the terms to see what it was all about.
The offer is for current holders of American Express cards and it offers three things:
- You get a free credit report from all three bureaus
- You get a free credit score from all three bureaus as well
- You get free credit monitoring in the form of updated credit scores whenever there is a change.
This is all free for the first 30 days and then the cost of $11.99 is billed to your credit card if you do not cancel. So of course you know I jumped on the chance to get this. I went ahead and applied for the reports and I printed off my credit scores as well. I think that they have gone up a couple of points from the last time and checked but I will have to compare the two reports just to be sure.
Again this is an example of procrastination working in my benefit because I was going to order the credit report but then just decided to wait. Now I will use the month of free reports to monitor my credit score and then order the free report from annualcreditreport.com at a later date.
So if you have an American Express card log in to your account and get that one month of free reports and scores now and check up on your business. If you do not have a card then I am sure you can apply for one with a zero percent interest rate and go ahead and check on those scores.
All the best.
cool deal. you always find out really cool things!!!–
i don’t have any credit cards and i’m afraid to get one. i cannot be trusted with them at all. i’m serious. i would go out and buy air! i’m serious! π —i’m already stressed out over this dang on bank of america check account i opened last month just to get that $75 bonus. 50 days is a long time to wait for a dang on bonus. ok sorry this is off topic isn’t it?? π
With so many identity theft cases in the US, it is a great idea to check your credit report regularly.
Awww who is ‘afwaid’ of the big bad credit cards? Ha ha. Your BOFA comment is right on the general trend….because it is related to saving money. I always see those things but I have never done them. Just remember that next year you will be paying tax on the $75 bonus. And no 50 days is not that long to wait for the bonus. Think of it this way you are making $1.50 a day for the next month and twenty days by doing nothing. Sounds better right? π
I don’t have an American Express card. LuluGal, can you recommend a credit monitoring service that is inexpensive and well-featured? Also, does utilizing a credit monitoring service adversely affect my score?
@ Henry,
I use Quizzle.com and CreditKarma.com for a free credit score. They are both free and although they only give one credit score that is better than nothing.
I do not advise using a credit monitoring service that you have to pay for unless there was some reason to believe that your credit was compromised. Go to annualcreditreport.com and order your free credit report from each bureau for FREE.
Using a service does not affect your credit score…but you are paying them money that you could have been using to pay off debt.
