I was speaking to Baz the other day about cheese and why it always seems to go bad before you use it up.
To keep cheese from going bad you can always put it in the freezer but then you have to deal with brittle cheese that is all crumbling each time you try to use it.
I found a way to keep cheese fresher without having to resort to putting it in the freezer. I usually buy a large piece of cheese that I cannot possibly use by myself before it starts to grow mold.
To keep my cheese fresh what I do is cut it into sections as soon as I buy it. I place each piece in a separate plastic container with a lid and place all the containers in the refrigerator. Then when I need some cheese I just get out one container and use what I need out of it.
The trick is that the cheese keeps better if air is not constantly being let into and out of the container. So when you are done with one container then you move on to the next one.
I do this all the time and I have not had to throw away moldy cheese since I started doing it.
What tips do you have for keeping your food fresh?
Good tip for cheese. It’s tough depending on the food, I have trouble with fruit in the summertime with fruit flies. Cheese though is usually one of those items you buy a small amount knowing you are going to eat it within a certain time period. I like your tip although having a lot of different containers clutters the fridge.

i love cheese!!!
A lot of the times, if it’s not too bad, I just cut the mold off. Cheese isn’t bad just cause it has some mold on it. However, if it is bad I can’t deal with doing that mentally and I have to throw it away. If my girlfriend knew that I just cut off the mold though, she’d probably think that was disgusting and KILL ME! 😉
