This blog is mainly about how I find ways to save money and I have tried a LOT of different things in the past. I read other blogs to look for tips on things I can do to reduce my expenses so that I can work on reducing debt and building wealth.
I have found a few frugal tips out that have been great and there also a few that really freak me out!!!! I decided to start a little series of Frugal Tips That I will NOT try so you can get a better idea of some of the things I think are too extreme.
One of the tips that I will not follow is Separating Two Ply Toilet Paper. Some ‘frugal’ bloggers mention how they buy two ply toilet paper and then unroll it, separate the layers and then roll it up again. I think this is utterly ridiculous and a complete waste of time. If you want to use less material from your toilet paper how about just using a shorter piece of the two ply with less squares.
If you normally use 8 squares of single ply toilet paper then why buy two ply, unroll and separate it and then use 8 squares of the single ply two times. It would come to the same amount if you simply used 4 squares of the two ply since you end up 4 times 2 sheets both ways. I think it it would be more time saving to just use less of the two ply sheets to get the same effect so why not do that instead.
There are ways to save money that make sense and there are ways that do not make sense and separating two ply toilet paper just makes no sense to me.
OMG, I can’t believe that people have tried this. I am all for being green but I sure don’t have the time to separate the toilet paper. This post gave me a real chuckle this morning.
I think if one wants to save money or be green buy the recycled paper no name brands of paper.
What a waste of time you can just use less paper as you said or buy toilet paper of lower quality which is cheaper.
I completely agree with you….but there are people out there who will do it.
OK, there are times when being frugal just does not make any sense. 🙂
I’ve heard cases like this and it’s a complete waste of time. They could use less paper as you said and wouldn’t do absurd things like unrolling and separating toilet paper, geeee….something must be going wrong in their attic.
Yes this sounds quite ridiculous. I really enjoy these frugal tips not to try posts. I’m sure many people actually follow these kinds of tips, but it definitely doesn’t make sense.
It might not be a good idea to use the same post excerpt/opening though. That creates a lot of duplicated text. For example, search your blog for ‘frugal tips’. It’s not much of problem with only a few such posts, but if this is kept up for months it may become an issue.
Anyways, keep up the great posts.
