Hello everyone,
So I have had to pay a lot in tuition this year and I am trying to withdraw the money from my ROTH IRA so that I can pay for tuition. The process seems pretty straightforward since I have a Vanguard account.
I can simply log in to my account and tell the system the amount I would need, and then they sell that much of my investments. I do not need to pick individual funds that I want sold, somehow Vanguard will make the decision on what to sell and will reallocate my portfolio.
Because I am using the money for tuition, which is a qualified expense, I should not have to pay the early withdrawal penalty.
Let’s just wait and see what happens next year when tax time rolls around. I hope I don’t have to pay anything at all on it but you just never know with all the changes in the tax law!
