Yesterday Walmart said goodbye to the Savings Catcher program forever. It was good while it lasted and I am sad to see it go.

What is Savings Catcher?

The Savings Catcher was a program hosted by Walmart. Every time you made a purchase using Walmart Pay you had the option to submit your receipt via their system.

You could also pay normally outside of Walmart Pay and scan the barcode from your paper receipt. I actually paid this way at first until they made it mandatory to use Walmart Pay.

The program would then scan your receipt and compare prices to competitors. If Walmart had a higher price for the same item they would credit you the difference.

I shopped at least once a week and do the bulk of my groceries at Walmart. This made the program a no-brainer for me to join. Almost every time I submitted I would get an email saying I got a few cents back.

This cash back would go onto a digital gift card that I had. I could then use the gift card for future purchases. It was a great system because I was already doing the bulk of my shopping at Walmart.

I’m not sure how long I used the system but I got back a total of $89.68 from the Savings Catcher. This may not seem like a lot to you but compared to the $0 I would have gotten from NOT using the program…it is a lot.

Why Walmart stopped the program:

Walmart recently announced that as of May 14th, 2019 they would discontinue the program. They cited having lower prices more often than not as the reason.

I’m sad they decided to get rid of the program. It really was nice to get those little savings emails. I enjoyed seeing the money add up even if it was only a few cents at a time.
