So yesterday was the end of Daylight Savings Time which meant that there were 25 hours in the day instead of the normal 24. Big Whoop.
I am not a fan of Daylight Savings Time and all the changes that go along with it if you don’t have gadgets that automatically update. My computer and cellphone made the change but I had to go and rewind my watch and my alarm clock because they do not change.
Where it used to be light outside around 7pm it was now dark at 6. Why do we still do this?
I just hung out about the house and watched shows all day. I guess you can call me the Daylight Savings grinch because I really hate Daylight Savings time and I am not looking forward to the time change again in the Spring.
> Where it used to be light outside around 7pm it was now dark at 6.
Not complaining about your other arguments, but you do realize that without daylight saving time it would have *already* been getting dark at 6 PM, right? Daylight saving time doesn’t cause this to happen; it delays it from happening.
Personally, I’d be content to stay on DST all year and never change back to standard time.
That is exactly my point. It is going to get dark at 6 pm in the rest of the world (with no daylight savings time) so why do we have it at ‘8’ in the summer and then at ‘6’ in the winter. Just let it be dark when it is dark.
I am so with you on this one. I never feel like I gain or lose an hour, I just feel annoyed that I have to change the clocks. As to why we still do it, wasn’t there an article on MSN that wondered the exact thing?
I have to say, I don’t mind the extra hour of sleep, but I HATE that it gets dark an hour earlier. I think we still do it because we’re stubborn and we refuse to change.
I don’t mind it at all. I kinda like how you get to sleep later but I hate how you lose an hour in the spring.
I so love getting an extra hour of sleep but yeah, getting dark an hour earlier is kinda hmmm, hard to adjust..
This seems like a misguided post. Sure it’s annoying to switch clocks twice a year, but there are practical reasons for daily savings time. We ultimately get more daylight when we are awake because of it. The benefits from that are countless.
How is it misguided? The title is not ‘Daylight Savings Is Impractical’ or ‘Daylight Savings Wastes More than it Saves’….the title is ‘I Hate Daylight Savings’. I also hate green beans but I am not saying the rest of the world has to agree with me.
I am just saying I hate Daylight Savings.
Oh I’m not saying you shouldn’t hate daylight savings time. It just seems that you hate it without bothering to look into what it’s all about. You make it out to be way more of an inconvenience than it really is.
I have looked into the history of Daylight Savings Time….I know what it means…and I still hate the fact that we do it in this country. I think at this point we no longer need it and honestly how many people are using just as much electricity when the sun goes down anyway.
@Laptop Briefcase:
What if we just changed the workday to 8-4 and kept it consistent throughout the year?
I love that idea……so does most of the rest of the world.
DST was created to save money and energy. You spend more time outside in the spring / summer months (spring forward) and hopefully less energy burned inside your home ie: lights, cooking appliances ect… Standard time just brings back the normal hours you would spend inside your home during the Fall / Winter (fall back). The whole reasoning behing DST was to sav energy. Just letting you know the source. I feel that we do save energy in the DST months, but thats just me 🙂 .
How are ya, just reading your blog here and I just had to show some love. It’s amazing how things work these days. yours truly, Cathy Young.
