Hey everyone I have a reader who sent me the following comment about Grand Central and I need some help. I have no idea how to respond to the reader in this situation so any advice would be welcome.
GrandCentral is a great idea and I had an invite but was unable to activate my phone number.
To activate, you go to a specific page on their website. They call your number while displaying a two-digit code on your screen.
When you answer the phone, you enter the two-digit code into the phone.
But I am using a dialup connection on a single phone line, so when GC calls, my phone is busy.
How am I supposed to activate it?
I responded as follows:
Do you have a cell phone that you could have it sent to? Or how about going to the library (or doing it at work?) where you will have the separate lines?
I used a cellphone so I did not have your issue.
This was not a good solution because then the reader came back with this comment:
I don’t have a cell phone and don’t have internet access at work. I don’t see how it can be done at the library because there’s no phone there to key the two-digit code into.
When I set up my Grand Central number I used my cellphone as the number to call. This reader does not have a cell phone…so does anyone have any ideas as to how this person can get a Grand Central number set up?
Any ideas Jag? Baz? Clever Dude?
Get to the grand central where the ‘Call Me’ button is to activate the account. Since you’re on dial up, you’ll need to click the button and then immediately disconnect your internet. (It may be faster to just pull out the phone cord). If you’re quick enough, you’ll get the call and enter the code to activate your account. After that, just hang up and reconnect to the internet.
Your only other option would be to call someone who has internet access and have them log in as you from their computer – then have them click the button to make the call.
Well I’m from Texas, so I’m not too bashful about things like that. I’d personally go over and knock on my neighbor’s door and tell him the story and then ask to borrow their phone.
Sorry, I don’t use Grand Central. I use Vonage 🙂
Looks like Ken has an answer though.
I would just ask grandcentral’s support team. They’ve always been really helpful when I send them emails, and I’m sure they’ll help out in this situation.
LuLuGal:
Shoot me an email at my gmail address (its in this comment) and I’ll activate your account:)
