So I was talking to someone the other day and I mentioned that I did not have cable. I told this person how I had gotten so used to watching television on my own time through a combination of Hulu and Boxee that I could NOT see myself ever going back to regular cable.
I also liked the fact that my current choice costs less than what cable would cost so it was a very small way to enjoy some of my favorite shows and save money at the same time.
My friend looked confused for a minute and said ‘I know you want to watch things on your own time….But you can get a DVR’.
I guess what was lost in the translation was that the DVR would cost me money because of the cable bill, which was part of my reason for not having cable.
I just shook my head and walked away.
I commend you because I still can not imagine giving up cable. I guess it’s all in what you’re used to. BTW….what’s Boxee?
Boxee is a program that allows you to watch shows from different channels (like CBS and FOX all in one area). You can have it on your iPad and other devices and instead of switching to each network you have access to it all on one device. I have it on my computer and you pull it up like a media player and all your shows are available. It is FREE so you should check it out. http://www.boxee.tv/
You could buy a cheap iptv which allows to watch free tv on your television via the internet. You only need to pay for the iptv box, and there is no monthly fee or other fees for using it.
I use Hulu and Netflix, I have basic cable with my internet and that is only $50. I find Hulu has all the things on network tv I like while Netflix gets me a bit more variety. I will def. have to check out the boxee thing.
I see all the channels through the internet here in Spain for free.
Hulu is a great alternative to cable.
