Every Friday I post on my weekly income and expenses in an effort to keep on track of my budget for the month. By breaking down my transactions on a weekly basis I can see where my money is going and see if I am going to be able to stay under my total budget for the month.

I am not using my spreadsheet at all this month so I have to rely totally on Mint to track all of my expenses and income for the entire month. Like many other people, the majority of my expenses are due at the beginning of the month. I have to pay rent which is the largest chunk of my expenses and also my car payment and insurance, which are also a very big part of the budget.

The electric bill for the month came in at $12 which is excellent because we have had the air running a few days because of the heat. I am hoping that we can keep the bill below $20 because that is what I allocated for electricity in the monthly budget. I am rolling the unused portion of each budget over to next month so I will have an $8 buffer for next month if I need it.

I found a new place to wash the car where I get a good basic wash for $4 instead of the $7 I had been paying recently. This means I can now either take the car to get washed more often or just keep the same schedule and spend less out of my budget. I am actually going to add one more wash in because it is VERY dusty here and birds are especially generous with their ‘presents’.

My original car maintenance budget was $20 a month and at the original rates I was washing the car every other week to stay under  budget. Then I would get an extra wash when the additional money in the car fund built up. Now at $4 a wash I can wash every week if I wanted to and still have a little left over in the budget.
